American golfer Bubba Watson has been a partner of Richard Mille since 2010 and, like Rafa Nadal, has been a sort of crash test dummy for the brand — wearing its watches on course to see whether they can withstand the stresses of hard stops and drastic accelerations.

That work has created three watches so far including the 2014 RM 38-01 G-Sensor Tourbillon Bubba Watson, which allowed him to see the accumulated motion of his swing in Gs. The watch was capable of measuring and surviving forces up up to 20 Gs.

That shockproofing is not enough to allow a professional golfer to wear the watch on course, so the work has continued.
Now Richard Mille and the two-time Masters champion have come together again to create the RM 38-02 Bubba Watson in bubble gum pink, black and white.

“It’s through the roof pink!” exclaims Mr Watson.

“Richard has made some amazing watches for me over the last ten years, but the one thing I kept bugging him for was pink — and he sure listened. There are so many things going on with it. The curve, like the slope on a golf course. The holes. The V with the two bars. I’m just in awe of the sheer mechanics, the artistry of the casing,” he adds.
That color combination may be the big talking point of the watch, but the real story is under the hood where a Carbon TPT baseplate with five titanium bridges keep the mechanism structurally stable, even under the explosive impact of a 350 yard drive.
The RM 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson is the fourth watch of the collection bearing Bubba’s name over more than a decade as a Richard Mille ambassador.

The watch measures 43.70 x 50.04 x 15.95 mm and contains a two-hander Calibre RM38-02 manual winding tourbillon movement with 70 hours power reserve.
